Legend of Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar became the first captain of Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season of 2008. He was the captain of the franchise for three years before stepping down after the 2011 campaign.
Harbhajan Singh took over the reigns of MI for the 2012 season but was removed from captaincy in the following edition. In the 2013 auction, Ricky Ponting was bought by the franchise and made the captain.
