Sachin Tendulkar highlighted the positive impact when national players contribute to their domestic teams, stating, “When India players turn up for their domestic teams, it raises the quality of play for youngsters, and sometimes new talent is identified.”

The recent move by the BCCI, making it mandatory for centrally contracted players to engage in red-ball cricket at the domestic level, aligns with this vision.

The cricket maestro shared his personal experience, expressing his passion for representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy throughout his illustrious career. He noted, “It also gives the national players a chance to sometimes rediscover the basics.” Tendulkar reminisced about his playing days, where the Mumbai dressing room boasted 7-8 India players, creating a dynamic and enjoyable environment.

Contract Saga with Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer

The context of Tendulkar’s comments gains significance amid the recent contract saga involving Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. The BCCI excluded the duo from central contracts as they missed their state teams’ respective Ranji Trophy games.

Ishan Kishan focused on IPL preparation, while Iyer opted out of Mumbai’s quarterfinal but played the semifinal.

Sachin Tendulkar believes the involvement of star Indian players in domestic tournaments will enhance fan interest.
