WPL 2024: Captain Smriti Mandhana slams gritty 50 to give Royal Challengers Bangalore flying start

RCB Captain Smriti Mandhana hits a gritty fifty as Royal Challengers Bangalore look to bounce back to winning ways against UP Warriors in WPL 2024. The RCB vs UPW game is the last match to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Scoring 80 runs, she hit 10 boundaries and three sixes. Mandhana was dismissed by Deepti Sharma in the 17th over.

With the gritty 50, Mandhana now is the holder of the WPL 2024 Orange Cap with 188* runs from 5 innings. Mandhana hit her second half-century in the tournament off 34 balls. Mandhana hit four boundaries and three maximums in the process.

In the current season, she has accumulated 219 runs from five matches, boasting a strike rate of over 154.22. Mandhana has scored two half-centuries. Overall, she has scored 368 runs in 13 WPL matches, averaging 28.3 (with two fifties).

While she failed to meet expectations in the inaugural WPL, Mandhana has made a strong comeback in the 2024 WPL. She has recorded scores of 13, 43, 74, 9, and now a superb 80. Notably, this is her highest score in the WPL.

Mandhana’s first half-century in the tournament came against Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals. Smriti scored 74 runs off 43 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes, after taking just 32 balls to reach fifty. However, Delhi staged a stunning comeback following Smriti’s dismissal in the 12th over.
