DC vs GG Highlights: Gujarat Giants have suffered their fourth loss on the bounce to dent their hopes of reaching playoffs. It was a poor show by the Giants as they failed to chase down 164 against Delhi Capitals after big guns yet again failed to fire. Ashleigh Gardner did her best with 31-ball 40. But the GG coaches would not be happy with how she gifted her wicket. In the end, DC were too strong for GG as they could only manage 138/8 in 20 overs. With the 25-run win, Delhi Capitals jumped to the top spot in WPL 2024 Points Table.
Delhi Capitals scrape to 163/8
Sent to bat first, Delhi Capitals would have hoped for a good start. It looked that way with Shafali Verma smashing Tanuja Kanwar for a four and a six. However, the joy was short-lived. After surviving in the first over, Shafali fell to Meghna Singh in the third over.
Meg Lanning and Alice Capsey took charge of the innings with some boundaries. In the powerplay, DC managed 51/1. But with Meghna Singh dismissing Capsey in the 7th over, things slowed down for DC.
Delhi went on a boundary drought for 19 deliveries before Meg Lanning broke that streak with a towering six off Tarannum Pathan.
Meg Lanning went on to complete her half-century and also 9000 T20 runs. But as she fell for 55 off 41 to Meghna Singh, things went downhill for DC. Had it not been for some powerhitting show by Annabel Sutherland, DC would have been in a difficult spot. Sutherland smashed 20 off 12 before falling to Tanuja Kanwar.
In the end, Delhi Capitals still managed to post 163/8.
6 dropped catches
While crowd has not been the issue this time with Bengaluru embracing WPL 2024, they won’t be happy with fielding efforts. There were as many as six dropped chances two innings combined. Gujarat Giants dropped four while Delhi Capitals complimented that with two more dropped chances.
