International comeback is far: Shardul Thakur not thinking of India call-up after brilliant Ranji Trophy ton

Will the all-rounder's gritty century lead the way for Shardul's comeback in the Indian cricket team? The Mumbai cricketer is not thinking that far.

Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur is not too worried about making his comeback in the national colours. Shardul played a brilliant knock on Sunday to bring Mumbai out of a tricky situation in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu. The all-rounder’s gritty century pulled Mumbai out of a slump to hand Ajinkya Rahane’s side a 207 runs lead in the first innings.

Shardul was dropped from the Indian team during India’s tour of South Africa after a string of average performances. However, the all-rounder has proved his mettle by taking up a leading role in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy journey. Mumbai were staring at an abyss in the first innings after bowling Tamil Nadu out for 146 runs. Shardul bowled decently in the first innings, taking 2 wickets.

However, it was Shardul the batter that raised eyebrows on Sunday. When no one expected him to deliver a brilliant performance with the bat, he scored his maiden century to hand Mumbai a huge lead.

Will this impressive performance lead the way for Shardul’s comeback in the Indian cricket team? Shardul is not dwelling on the matter much.

I think international comeback is far from now because the Test team is out already for the fifth game (against England) and after this we are going into the IPL. It’s far, I am not thinking that far. But yes, scoring a century is a big, big relief and also it was very important for the team at that point of time,” he said after the day’s play.
