The BCCI Central Contracts have been announced for 2023-24 season. And quite a few players have been axed for the upcoming year. These include some high profile names like Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal and others. As many as 9 players have been axed from their contracts.
Each of these players have been axed for widely different reasons. Some owing to disciplinary issues or poor form for others. Shikhar Dhawan, despite not been a part of the team had a C contract with the BCCI. He has been axed after having not received a National Team call-up for over an year.
On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal too has been dropped. The veteran spinner is nearing the end of his career. Accompanied by poor bowling performances, the swift leggie too has been axed. India’s middle order dependable duo Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane too have been axed from the list.
Which Players Were Dropped From BCCI Central Contract?
Dropped – Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Umesh Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar
But the two biggest surprised were the exclusion of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. The rebel duo were not taken into consideration for the upcoming cycle. The duo directly ignored BCCI’s request to play domestic cricket.
“Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations. The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team,” BCCI’s statement read.
Umesh Yadav, Deepak Hooda and Deepak Chahar missed out after not being in contention for the National Team.
