Afghanistan skipper Babar Azam? Technical error during AFG vs IRE Test leaves fans in splits

Babar had stepped down as Pakistan's all-format captain last year after a disappointing ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

Babar Azam has returned as a Test captain, but not for Pakistan; instead, he’s helmed that role for Afghanistan. InsideSport isn’t breaking that news to you, but rather a technical error during the Afghanistan vs Ireland one-off Test accidentally showed the former Pakistan skipper as Afghanistan’s Test skipper.

While Andrew Balbirnie was rightly shown as Ireland’s captain, instead of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Babar’s image was placed as the Pathans skipper for the one-off Test in Tolerance Oval, Abu Dhabi.

Babar Azam, Afghanistan’s new Test captain?

Seeing Babar Azam make a return as Test captain, Pakistan fans were jokingly elated. The right-handed batter had decided to step down as Pakistan’s skipper last year following his side’s poor show in the ODI World Cup 2023. Since then, Shan Masood has taken over the mantle, and Babar has continued to play as Pakistan’s best batter.
