Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic to compete for prestigious Laureus Awards 2024

Lionel Messi recieved the Laureus Award as Sports Man of the year for the year 2023

The likes of Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic, Simone Biles, and Mikaela Shiffrin will be contending for prestigious awards at the highly anticipated Laureus Awards 2024 in Madrid, Spain, this April.

Among the stellar lineup of nominees are Olympic champions, medalists, and renowned superstars, representing a diverse array of sporting disciplines. The nominees, announced on Monday (26 February), span eight distinct award categories.

What is the Laureus Awards ?

Over 1,300 members of Laureus’ global media panel meticulously selected the nominees for the seven primary award categories, while the International Paralympic Committee contributed to the final selection for the World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award.

Lionel Messi, reigning 2023 World Sportsman of the Year, finds himself once again in contention for the coveted award, alongside tennis maestro Novak Djokovic, who clinched three Grand Slam titles in 2023. Pole vault sensation Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis and track phenom Noah Lyles, boasting triple gold medals from the World Athletics Championships, also headline the competitive shortlist.
