We want him: Andhra players back ‘skipper’ Hanuma Vihari after vowing to never play for side

The Andhra team stands firmly behind their skipper Hanuma Vihari and wants him to lead the side in remainder of Ranji Trophy 2024

The Andhra team has backed Hanuma Vihari after the latter vowed to never play for the side again. Vihari claims that he was asked asked to resign as captain for shouting against a ’17th man’. The player is reportedly the son of a politician and made a complaint following the event.

Andhra wants Vihari to continue as skipper

The players, in their letter, note that Vihari had not approached the player aggressively. They add that the sort of language used is common in the team’s atmosphere. The side backs Vihari to continue as the side’s captain, adding that he has helped Andhra qualify seven times under his leadership.

The player in question with Vihari is Kuntrapakam Prudhviraj. He was the 17th player in Andhra’s first game against Bengal.

Vihari has been one of the most successful captains in Andhra’s history. Under his leadership, the state has reached five Ranji Trophy quarterfinals in the last seven years. Even in the ongoing 2024 edition, the right-handed batter took his side to the quarterfinals, only to lose by 4 runs against Madhya Pradesh.
