Hope he doesn’t score many runs: Joe Root praises ‘talented’ Dhruv Jurel after Day 2 resilience

Joe Root heaped high praise on India's young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel who played an unbeaten knock of 30 on Day 2 of the Ranchi Test.

England’s veteran batter Joe Root heaped high praise on India’s young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel after latter’s resilient unbeaten knock in the India vs England 4th Test in Ranchi on Saturday.

Jurel’s gritty 30 not out helped India reach 219 for 7 at the end of Day 2. The hosts still trailing by134 runs but they would still hope with Dhruv Jurel at the crease.

“Dhruv Jurel is a very talented player. He kept really well and showing a different side to his game here. He is very very talented and as a English cricketer I hope he doesn’t score many runs”, Root told reporters after the day’s play.

We are in nice position: Root

Root, who slammed an unbeaten 122 in the first innings, claimed that England are in commanding position in the fourth Test.

“We’ve got ourselves into a nice position at the end of the first innings. So we’ll see how things progress throughout the game. Obviously, it looks like it’s going to keep deteriorating and keep getting worse. So if we can get three early wickets tomorrow, hopefully that puts us in a really strong position for the rest of the game”, the former England skipper further added.
