Indian sprinter Anjali Devi banned for four years for doping

Devi, who was country’s fastest quarter-miler last year, tested positive for GW1516 which is under World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List.

Indian quarter-miler Anjali Devi has been handed a four-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for a doping violation.

Devi, who was country’s fastest quarter-miler last year, tested positive for GW1516, a substance that enhances endurance and fat burning, in a dope test in June 2023. Her four-year suspension began on July 7, 2023.

Notably, GW1516 is prohibited at all times under metabolic modulators on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List. According to the US Anti-Doping Agency’s website, GW1516 was pulled from clinical trials when it was found to cause cancer and was not safe to use.
