With Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a double hundred again, Shubman Gill scoring a 91, Safaraz Khan chipping in his twin-fifties, Rohit Sharma & Ravindra Jadeja getting tons as well, India’s 434-run win against England in Rajkot might look easy, but that wasn’t really the case.
India was pushed hard in the first innings, first when they were reduced to 33-3 on a good batting wicket, and then when England bounced back in their first innings, with Ben Duckett leading the charge with a blazing century. But somehow, in different situations, different players found ways to bail the team out of trouble.
Head Coach Rahul Dravid acknowledged that it wasn’t just the senior players, but a well-rounded effort, where the juniors also took charge.
Speaking to BCCI.tv at the end of the match, Dravid said, “Really proud of the team. I think we were challenged in this game. In the end, it seems like an easy win, but nice to see different people step up.
“If you look at this match, there were performances all across the table, not just the seniors, but the junior guys as well. This really speaks volumes of the team, and it’s ability to bounce back under-pressure.”
