After having done his bit in the first three Tests of the IND vs ENG series, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is set to be rested for the fourth match in Ranchi, that begins on Feb 23, as per a report in Cricbuzz. The Indian team will leave Rajkot on Tuesday, while Bumrah is unlikely to travel with the team, the report further suggests.
The decision could come after India beat England convincingly, in the Rajkot Test by 434 runs, their biggest victory in Tests by runs. Even though Bumrah picked only two wickets, he contributed immensely during the Test, and curtailed the scoring in the first innings, when Ben Duckett was going hammer and tongs.
Moreover, Bumrah, who is a little injury-prone, has bowled close to 81 overs in the series. Earlier in the series, even Mohammed Siraj was rested from the Vizag Test, and an inexperienced Mukesh Kumar was played over him.
No Replacement Till Now
The news of Bumrah’s exclusion is yet to be confirmed by the BCCI, and hence no replacement has been named. Most likely, Mukesh Kumar, who was ousted from the Test team prior to the third Test, could come back again. He recently picked up a 10-wicket haul for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy match against Bihar.
In the first Test, Bumrah picked up six wickets, followed by nine in the second Test in Vizag.
