Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Sunday hit the ground running in the Pakistan Super League 2024. Playing the first match of the PSL season, the Peshawar Zalmi captain became the first batter PSL history to score 3000 runs. Babar on Sunday slammed 68 runs although it came in a losing cause.
Babar’s team was faced with a tough chase in the first match of their PSL campaign. Quetta Gladiators, batting first, went on to score a big total of 206 runs thanks to the opening pair of Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel. They scored 75 and 74 respectively to help the Gladiators reach a good total.
Babar Azam, opening the innings, led from the front with a quickfire 68 of 42 balls to set up an intense tie. However, it wasn’t enough as the Peshawar’s side slumped to a defeat by 16 runs.
In spite of the defeat, Babar etched his name in the history books by becoming the first batter in PSL history to score 3000 runs. He leads another Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman (2381) by a good 600+ runs as the highest run scorer in PSL history. Shoaib Malik is third on the list with 2082 runs.
