IND vs ENG 3rd Test: On a six-hitting spree, Yashasvi Jaiswal equals world record

IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal has crossed 500 runs in the series, and become only the second left-handed batter for India after Sourav Ganguly to do so.

On the third day of the Rajkot Test, ever since India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal came back to the middle, to resume his innings after retiring hurt the previous day, he was a man on a mission. While runs were coming easy, he wanted to make sure, he deflated the confidence of the opposition, by his attacking stroke play, or Bazball, or his version, Jaisbal.

At one point, Yashasvi slammed three back-to-back sixes to veteran James Anderson. That meant, he had already slammed 12 sixes in his innings, that is the highest by any Indian ever in a Test. The previous record was jointly held by Navjot Singh Sidhu and Mayank Agarwal — of hitting eight sixes each.

Not just that, Yashasvi has also become the batsman with most sixes in a Test series by an Indian (22). The previous record was held by Rohit Sharma – who had hit 19 sixes in the series by South Africa in 2019. Below him is Harbhajan Singh with 14, in the 2010 series vs New Zealand.

World Record for Most Sixes in an Innings

In his innings of 214, Yashasvi equaled the world record for most sixes ever in an innings. Wasim Akram too, had slammed 12 maximums during his double ton against Zimbabwe in Sheikhupura, 1996.

The slew of records did not end there. Now, in this series, India has combined hit, the most number of sixes. The number has swelled to 48 with two more Tests to go. The previous best was 47, against South Africa in 2019. Out of the 48 now, 28 alone have come in the Vizag Test, also a record for India. The previous best was vs the Proteas in 2019, at Vizag.
