However, an exchange between Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan’s father before the match has gone viral. In the conversation, Sarfaraz’s father asks Rohit Sharma to take care of his son, to which Rohit replies on the affirmative.

Sarfaraz Khan has had to wait for long before making his debut for India. The batter has scored runs at every opportunity he has had in domestic cricket, and was rewarded on Thursday with his maiden cap in Test cricket.

He made the opportunity count by scoring a fantastic half-century on his Test cricket debut. Sarfaraz Khan’s father had a big role to play in his son’s ascent in Indian cricket, and on Thursday he was a visibly emotional man when his son was handed the Indian cap by legend Anil Kumble.

His emotions seeped through when Indian captain Rohit Sharma went over to congratulate Sarfaraz’s family. Rohit went over to Naushad Khan and told him, “We know what you’ve done for him (Sarfaraz),” before going over to congratulate Sarfaraz’s wife.

A visibly emotion Naushad Khan is heard telling Rohit, “Please take care of my son,” to which Rohit replied, “Yes, sure.”
