Anil Kumble believes Sarfaraz Khan’s success will send out message about Ranji Trophy’s importance

Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan on Thursday got the whole cricketing fraternity talking when the Mumbai batter slammed a fantastic half-century on debut in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test. Sarfaraz has been a serial run scorer in the domestic circuit and used that experience to score a half-century on debut. However, former India captain Anil Kumble at the end of the day’s play said the success story of Sarfaraz will act as a reminder for other players about the importance of scoring runs in the Ranji Trophy.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'sarfaRAZ-BALL' Wishes galore as Sarfaraz Khan scores half-century on debut

Sarfaraz did not appear nervous on his debut. He smashed the England bowlers all over the park after he came out to bat. The Mumbai batter, who has been waiting for his chance for a long time, instead brought up his 50 in just 48 balls. He looked on course to score a century on debut. However, a mix up in the middle with Ravindra Jadeja resulted in Sarfaraz being run out.

Sarfaraz very confident: Kumble

“It never looked like it was his first Test innings. The kind of approach he came with impressed me the most. In tests, its a different mindset. To have that approach and that free-flowing innings was brilliant. He was very assured in his approach on how he wanted to bat. The moment he took the bowlers on, the next ball he was on backfoot and took a single to get off strike,” Kumble said.

“He is a very confident person. All those years of playing IPL and Ranji trophy is bearing fruit. Happy for him because it gives out a nice message to all those players that if you go out and score runs in Ranji, then you have a chance of playing for India,” he added.
