‘Scored hundred in club game’: Pujara shares same passion for any team he plays for

Cheteshwar Pujara has scored an impressive 673 runs at an average of 74.77 in this season of Ranji Trophy

After being sidelined from national contention following 103 Tests, Cheteshwar Pujara faces doubts about a potential comeback. However, the stalwart of Indian Test cricket remains resilient.

Despite the prevailing scepticism, he persists in honing his skills in the Ranji Trophy for Saurashtra. This season, he has amassed an impressive 673 runs at an average of 74.77. Pujara attributes his readiness for the Ranji Trophy to participating in a competitive club match in Mumbai just before the season.

By playing a competitive club match in Mumbai just before the Ranji season. I just love this game. I am passionate about it.” Cheteshwar Pujara told HT.

Expressing his unwavering passion for the game, he recounts scoring a century against formidable opponents. Despite the odds stacked against his club team, Pujara was determined to excel and secure victory.

I got a hundred in that match against Dhawal Kulkarni, Sandeep Sharma, Shams Mulani and Shivam Dube. My club team was weaker against the opposition. So, I wanted to ensure I put my best foot forward and we won the match. ” Pujara added.

His commitment extends beyond personal glory; he strives to propel Saurashtra into the Ranji knockouts, showcasing the same fervour he brings to every game, whether for his state team, Sussex, or his club.

I am saying this because that’s exactly why I play for Saurashtra. I want us to qualify for the Ranji knockouts. It’s about having the same passion whether it is Saurashtra, Sussex or my club.
