David Warner may have retired from Test and ODI cricket, but that hasn’t slowed him up in the shortest format of the game. The Delhi Capitals (DC) vice-captain has ended the AUS vs WI T20I series as the highest run-scorer. The 3-match series happening in Australia has seen Warner score 173 at a rapid strike rate of 166.35.
The southpaw started the series with a 36-ball 70 and ended it on a high by scoring 81 of just 49 balls. David Warner has been one of the most bankable players in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The opener is the third-highest run-scorer (6397) in the league’s history, and that too at a quick pace (139.91).
Warner had led the Capitals last season and ended up as their highest run scorer (513). In Rishabh Pant’s absence, the aggressive Australian batter had done well with the bat but couldn’t take DC to the playoffs.
Now that Pant is returning, an in-form David Warner bodes well for the Capitals. However, that won’t be the only role of the experienced campaigner.
With uncertainty over Pant’s fitness and availability for the whole IPL 2024 season, Warner will prove to be their leader in the batting department and will serve as their leader if the wicketkeeper batter misses out.
