IND vs ENG Test: Injury troubles continue to hurt India, KL Rahul ruled out of IND vs ENG Rajkot Test, Devdutt Padikkal to join as cover

India Cricket Team’s injury concerns continue. Star batter KL Rahul has been ruled out of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Rajkot. KL Rahul missed the previous Test with a quad injury. Though he was selected in the squad, KL Rahul is not full fit to play in the game. Devdutt Padikkal will join the team as Rahul’s replacement.

The India vs England Test series remains tied at 1-1. KL Rahul missed the Vizag Test after suffering a quad injury in the Hyderabad Test. Despite a gap between the 2nd and the 3rd Test, KL Rahul is not fully fit to continue for the team. On the other hand, fellow injured player, Ravindra Jadeja has recovered.

BCCI Statement on KL Rahul –

KL Rahul, whose availability for the remaining three Tests was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the third Test against England in Rajkot. Mr. Rahul has reached 90 per cent of match fitness and is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.

He will continue his recovery process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to be completely match-fit for the fourth and fifth Test.

Now the absence of KL Rahul will cause a major problem for the Indian Cricket Team. The team current team doesn’t have Virat Kohli in the mix. Shreyas Iyer too has been snubbed after a string of poor performances. Rajat Patidar made his debut in the previous game and is expected to get another chance.

Now the biggest question is – Who will replace KL Rahul in Rajkot Test? Cheteshwar Pujara despite his good form in Ranji Trophy has been overlooked. In a such a condition, the BCCI Selection Committee will give a chance to Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal.

The Indian Express claims that KL Rahul will need another week to be full fit. On the other hand, Devdutt Padikkal has been in sensational form off late. He has managed 556 runs in just 4 Ranji Trophy matches so far. The Karnataka batter has showcased his fine batting style by hammering 3 tons in the Ranji Trophy. In the unofficial Tests against England Lions, Padikkal continued his fine form by hammering a ton.
