All India Football Federation’s technical committee on Saturday met with Indian Football Team coach Igor Stimac to discuss India’s performance in the recently-concluded AFC Asian Cup. The AIFF technical committee took stock of India’s poor display and also charted out the future path of Indian football.
India are due to play in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next month. It is an important year for Indian football, with a lot at stake in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. It is imperative that the Indian football team shake off the disappointment of AFC Asian Cup as soon as possible.
India had a disappointing AFC Asian Cup campaign. The Sunil Chhetri-led team lost all their group stage matches, without scoring a goal.
Technical Committee chairperson IM Vijayan said, “I welcome all members to this meeting, and I would like to, first of all, say to the head coach that the results in Qatar are now a matter of the past. Our main focus should be on the matches ahead, in the March and June FIFA windows and that we should get the best possible results from them.”
Stimac said, “The mission to beat Kuwait in the away game and get three points has been accomplished. Now the two games against Afghanistan and the home match against Kuwait will be extremely crucial.”
