Game recognize game! Novak Djokovic responds to Erling Haaland calling him his ‘sporting hero’

Djokovic is set to return to tennis at the Indian Wells Masters after losing in the Australian Open semifinals to Jannik Sinner.

Novak Djokovic has responded to football superstar Erling Haaland, calling him his ‘sporting hero’. The 36-year-old is one of the most accomplished tennis players of all time and a superstar in Europe.

After hearing the 23-year-old Norwegian praise him, the tennis ace took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to acknowledge Haaland.

Novak Djokovic was responding to Haaland’s calling him his hero in any sport other than football.

“I like Djokovic. I think he’s good. He’s being himself, and yeah, what he’s achieved is also amazing, coming from nowhere and from his country. So, yeah, I’ll take Djokovic,” he said on the Manchester City podcast.

This was Djokovic’s first tweet since his four-set loss to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open 2024 semifinal. The Serb called the match one of his worst performances at a Grand Slam after losing his first-ever semifinal at the Happy Slam.

After his disappointing loss, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has announced that he’ll return to tennis at the Indian Wells Masters 2024. Novak Djokovic is a 5-time champion at the tournament and will make his first appearance there since 2019.
