IND vs ENG Test: Alastair Cook claims Joe Root is struggling with Bazball, unable to match his pace

Alastair Cook believes that Joe Root has lost his balance while playing Bazball. Cook believes that Root has lost his natural game while playing England’s highly aggressive style of gameplay. As a result, Root’s gameplay in the IND vs ENG Test series has been jeopardised.

England has played entertaining cricket in India with their Bazball approach. But they have failed to reach the target of 399. In fact even with their aggressive batting, England managed to cross the 400 run mark only once in the last 4 innings.

“He is England’s best batsman there’s ever been in all formats – but he does struggle sometimes with the tempo of this Bazball era,” Alastair Cook told TNT Sports.

“He sees all these other people playing these aggressive shots, which suit their style. Rooty has got 11,500 Test runs, he’s brilliant, but he’s so desperate to fit in to what Ben (Stokes) and Brendon (McCullum) are doing that sometimes I don’t think he gets his balance of attack and defence right,” Cook added.

Alastair Cook claims that he loves watching Joe Root play the traditional style of cricket. The former England captain claims that he wants to see Root playing at his own pace. Root while chasing played a risky shot and gave away his wicket in the 2nd innings of the Vizag Test.

“He was on 16 off nine balls and he doesn’t normally strike at that rate – he’s normally striking at 75 to 80, which is still incredibly high for a Test match strike-rate, with zero risk. That’s when I love watching Joe Root bat,” Cook concluded.
