Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan on Saturday heaped praises on Indian captain Rohit Sharma for bringing in Jasprit Bumrah at the right time after the dismissal of Zach Crawley. Bumrah produced a magnificent spell at a crucial juncture of the IND vs ENG Test, dismissing Joe Root and Ollie Pope to break England’s resistance.
Bumrah had a brilliant spell after lunch that turned the tide in favour of India. Bumrah first removed Joe Root with a good length delivery that Root nicked to second slip. The Indian pacer then went on to produce the ball of the match. His perfectly executed yorker went between Ollie Pope’s bat and pad and rattled the stumps. The spell was much needed for India who are looking to come back into the series after losing the first Test.
Former pacer Zaheer Khan said Rohit Sharma was spot on in bringing Bumrah at a time when India needed quick wickets to gain an advantage in the match.
“The move to bring back Jasprit Bumrah was a well calculated move. Rohit was proactive after Zak Crawley’s wicket fell and he was aware enough to know that Root has just walked in, and Ollie Pope has done the damage in the previous innings, so bring in your best bowler, create the opportunity and Bumrah reacted beautifully to that opportunity,” Zaheer said on Cricbuzz.
“The moment Bumrah started that spell, you knew that something was going to happen. The reverse swing was on offer and Bumrah – we know – what he can do once there is any swing on offer. He picked up his pace with every delivery and he was in that moment to make sure that the breakthrough happens for him and that resulted in a big wicket,” Zaheer added.
