From living in tent to maiden double ton, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s India dreams take flight

From the maidans of Mumbai to a raucous stadium in Vishakhapatnam, Yashasvi Jaiswal's story is nothing short of inspirational.

From the maidans of Mumbai to a raucous stadium in Vishakhapatnam, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s story is nothing short of inspirational. The young southpaw, who has already carved a name for himself in the international circuit, just made it more sweeter with his maiden double ton. The journey of Jaiswal from living in a tent to going on to shine as India’s opener is a story for the generation to come.

From tent to two hundred: Jaiswal’s dream journey

Having moved to Mumbai when he was just 11 years old, Jaiswal lived in a tent for three years. He etched his name in the Limca Book of World Records for scoring an unbeaten knock of 319 runs in a Giles Shield match in 2015. An all format star, the southpaw is continuing to display his prowess in the red-ball format as well.

He brought up his double ton in 277 deliveries, striking 18 boundaries and seven sixes en route. He became the third youngest Indian to score a double hundred at 22 years of age.

Jaiswal commenced batting on Day 2 after staying unbeaten on 179 runs on the previous day. He has been the lone warrior for India, with all other batters did not manage to cross 40 runs. Earlier on Day 1, Jaiswal was involved in five 40+ run partnerships and was a spectator for the entire day as his teammates walked back and forth to the pavilion.
