Being the only captain to have led the team in 100 Tests, Smith has an incredible record of winning the most Test matches during his tenure. He stands above all with 53 wins in 109 Test matches with a winning percentage of almost 50.

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting has been immaculate with his leadership skills and has helped the Aussies win the World Cup twice. He has led the team to win two Champions Trophies as well during his tenure as the captain of the Australian team. When it comes to the longest format, leading in 77 Tests, he came out as the winning captain on 48 occasions.

Steve Waugh

With 41 wins out of the 57 Test matches where he led the team, Steve Waugh with an amazing win percentage of 71.92, comes third on the list of most Test wins as the captain.

Virat Kohli

 Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli comes fourth on this record with a total of 40 wins out of the 68 Test matches, where he led the team. Under his captaincy, India won a Test series in Australia and won a couple of matches in England and one in South Africa as well. 

Clive Lloyd

Veteran Clive Lloyd comes fifth on the list with 36 wins out of 74 occasions. A 6’4″ tall batter, who smacked the best of bowlers and helped the Windies win two World Cups in the years 1975 and 1979.
