‘An all-format player’: Shamar Joseph set to make way into ODIs and T20s after Gabba heroics

Shamar Joseph's seven-wicet haul propelled West Indies to their first win against Australia in 27 years

Shamar Joseph, the standout performer in West Indies’ historic Test victory over Australia at the Gabba, might disrupt T20 World Cup plans, according to coach Daren Sammy. Despite not featuring in the limited-overs series against Australia, Joseph’s exceptional display has created a selection dilemma.

With remarkable figures of “7 for 68” in the Test and a debut five-wicket haul in Adelaide, Joseph’s impact is evident. Although he has limited T20 experience, playing only two matches without a wicket, Sammy sees him evolving into an all-format player and a potential contender for the T20 World Cup.

Acknowledging the selection headache posed by Joseph’s outstanding performance, Sammy expressed excitement about his prospects and mentioned emerging talents like Jayden Seales. Despite initial exclusion from the ODI and T20I series against Australia, Joseph’s Test heroics may prompt reconsideration

“He will definitely be an all-format player,” stated Sammy, emphasizing the selection dilemma Joseph’s performance has posed. Sammy explained that there were discussions about including Joseph in the limited-overs squads, but they decided to let him return home to recover and celebrate with his family after suffering a toe injury during the Gabba Test. Sammy highlighted the importance of enjoying such victorious moments and stated that well-planned decisions guide the team.

Joseph, withdrawing from the ILT20 due to injury, is set to join the PSL as a replacement player for Peshawar Zalmi. Sammy hopes Joseph’s exceptional performance will inspire the inexperienced ODI squad in their series against Australia.
