‘It gets a little difficult…’: Rajat Patidar opens on RCB team-mate Virat Kohli’s impact  on his career

WIth Virat Kohli, Jadeja and KL Rahul sidelined Rajat Patidar was called to the India squad ahead of 2nd Test in Vizag

The India Cricket Team engaged in an intense practice session in Vizag ahead of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. Rajat Patidar, poised for his Test debut, patiently awaited his turn during the batting practice. Following a challenging 2nd innings collapse in Hyderabad, Team India focused heavily on refining their batting skills.

Patidar, set to make his Test debut against England at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, displayed versatility in his net session, practising both conventional and reverse sweeps. The talented right-hander, who joined the squad after Virat Kohli’s withdrawal from the first two Tests, expressed his emotions and preparations for the significant opportunity.

“Getting my first Test call up after an injury is my happiest moment. It was my dream to represent my country in Test cricket,” shared Patidar. Interacting with cricket stalwarts like Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma has been pivotal in boosting his confidence.

“This is the first time I got to speak to Rohit Sharma on this tour about batting. He shared his experience in the nets. These things have boosted my confidence,” he added.

Known for his aggressive batting style, Patidar emphasized his meticulous preparation. “I study about the bowlers and their field placement. I observe how Rohit Sharma tackles the field position. I try to add this to my moves and prepare. I analyze and put them into my game,” he explained.

Expressing excitement about observing Virat Kohli’s batting, Patidar mentioned, “I always observe his batting from the back whenever I get a chance I enjoy watching him bat a lot. Especially his footwork and body movement during batting, I try to add that to me, although it gets a little difficult. If I have to describe it in one word, it will be excited.”

Patidar’s recent stellar performances, including two centuries against England Lions, have earned him this coveted Test opportunity. His impactful 150 in the four-day match against Ahmedabad played a crucial role in fast-tracking his inclusion in the playing XI.
