IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Indian batters prepare counterattacking measures to dominate English spinners

The Indian batters are gearing up to face the England in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. The Indian batters will have the tough job of turning things around in the second Test, especially after ordinary display in the first Test. Ahead of the second Test during India’s practice session on Wednesday, the Indian batters were seen executing strategies that were not seen in the previous encounter.

The Indian batters struggled in the second innings, especially against England spinner Tom Hartley who took seven wickets to end India’s charge and provide England with the lead in the 5-match series. The Indians looked unsure of how to tackle Hartley, and lost wickets in the process. However, ahead of the second Test, the Indian batters practiced several drills to negate England’s spin weapon.

Apart from practicing sweeps and reverse-sweeps, the Indian batters looked to play shots that can fetch the side runs at a brisk pace. Moreover, the batters looked to come down the tracks against spinners such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Saurabh Kumar to nullify the spin. Once the batters were on the line of the ball, they either played shots over the bowler’s head or defend with a certain angle that left the ball dead on its tracks.

The strategy can be an effective counter attack against England’s spinners but has the potential to backfire. Coming down the tracks will leave the margin of error to a bare minimum as a slight edge or a missed line will spell doom.
