Mayank Agarwal can’t speak for 48 hours after ‘poisonous liquid’ scare on plane

Mayank Agarwal will miss Karnataka's upcoming Ranji game against Railways due to this unexpected break.

Relief washed over the Indian cricket fraternity as Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal was declared out of danger after a bizarre in-flight medical emergency. While the mystery surrounding the “poisonous liquid” he consumed before takeoff from Agartala remains unsolved, Agarwal is set to be discharged with a unique restriction: no speaking for 48 hours.

Following his ordeal on Tuesday, Mayank Agarwal will land in Bengaluru on Wednesday, his voice temporarily silenced due to “ulcers and swelling” on his lips. The incident unfolded hours before Karnataka’s next Ranji Trophy match, forcing Agarwal to de-board the Delhi-bound flight and be rushed to a local hospital.

The hospital confirmed Agarwal’s stability and placed him under observation, while speculation swirled around the cause of his distress. Agarwal himself filed a police complaint in Agartala, alleging foul play after consuming the suspicious liquid.

Initial reports described Agarwal experiencing throat irritation and lip swelling after drinking water kept behind the seat pocket. Karnataka team manager Ramesh elaborated, revealing Agarwal’s sudden discomfort and the crew’s swift response, leading to an emergency landing and hospitalization.

Mayank Agarwal to miss Karnataka’s Ranji game

Sadly, Mayank Agarwal will miss Karnataka’s upcoming Ranji game against Railways due to this unexpected break. However, he is expected to rejoin the team for their clash with Tamil Nadu next week.

Meanwhile, Tripura authorities confirmed investigating Agarwal’s complaint and promised to uncover the truth behind the mysterious liquid. IndiGo, the flight carrier, acknowledged the medical emergency but remained tight-lipped on the specifics.

As Mayank Agarwal recuperates and authorities seek answers, the cricket world awaits further developments in this unusual saga. While the silence imposed by his temporary medical condition might be frustrating, his recovery is the paramount concern. Hopefully, the 48 hours of quiet will be followed by a clear explanation and, most importantly, a complete return to form for the talented batsman.
