Prithvi Shaw to miss full Ranji Trophy season, might come back for IPL 2024: Report

Prithvi Shaw to miss full Ranji Trophy season, might come back for IPL 2024: Report

Prithvi Shaw has played five Tests for India, scoring 339 runs at an average of 42, including a ton and two fifties.

Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has been battling with injury from last August and is not a part of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad as well this year. Recently, there was a video where he was seen knocking the ball, but it must be admitted, that the youngster looked out of shape.

Now, as per a report in CricketNext, the batsman has resumed batting in the NCA nets but still hasn’t received the clearance to play. “Prithvi Shaw has been in the NCA for months now, doing rehab and following all the necessary recovery protocols. It is safe to say that he is batting normally in the nets but is still a bit far from getting clearance to play competitive cricket again. As of now, it looks very unlikely that he will play the Ranji Trophy,” said a source close to the cricketer.

“It is highly unlikely that NCA will give clearance to play Ranji Trophy directly. No one wants him to have a breakdown after such a long rehab programme so it’s a rather safe approach to have him back in a shorter format. By then there will be enough time to put the body through match simulations and other high-intensity drills,” added the source.

Shaw had last played competitive cricket in August 2023, for county side Northamptonshire, where in the One-Day Cup, he returned with scores of 125* and 244. He had injured his knee while fielding in the game against Durham, after which he returned home.

Return to IPL?

While there is no clarity if Prithvi will be available for the IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals would be losing its sleep for now, with an eye on Rishabh Pant’s rehab as well. While the former is expected to make a comeback for the tournament, the picture would only become clear closer to the IPL.
