Hopefully they can put more respect on my name: Tom Hartley after Hyderabad heroics

Spinner Tom Hartley, who set up England's win in IND vs ENG 1st Test, hopes to have 'respect' on his name after special performance.

Spinner Tom Hartley, who was the chief architect of England’s win in IND vs ENG 1st Test in Hyderabad, hopes to have ‘respect’ on his name after special performance.

After a disappointing outing in first innings, debutant Hartley turned it around for himself and his team as he dismantled the hosts. The 24-year-old picked up a 7-wicket haul as England registered a famous win.

“To come out in the fourth innings and do what I did, hopefully they can put a bit more respect on my name and go forward from there,” Hartley was quoted as saying to BBC Sport.

Not just with ball, Hartley made crucial contributions with bat in both the innings as England put on a mammoth score in third innings, despite conceding a 190-run lead in India’s first innings.

“I was so nervous that first day. I was so happy to bring a few runs to the team, hit a six, tick a few things off,” Hartley further added.

After a memorable Test debut, Hartley feels prepared to play a big role in the remainder of the series.

“Coming out here, I was just looking to get a game or a couple of games,” he said. “I might now have a big role, but I’m more than ready for that. I want more of it”, the spinner concluded.
