Familiar foes Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are set to renew their rivalry in distant North America in the pre-season of summer 2024. The three Premier League clubs are set to play one another ahead of the 2024-25 season. The matches are expected to garner huge interest among the football-loving fraternity in North America, specially given the rivalry and high profile names these teams possess.
Liverpool-Man United
The rivalry between Liverpool and Man United is one that evokes memories of the Premier League’s greatest games, with the rivalry stretching back decades for both sides. It’s one of the most iconic rivalries in English football, and the historical differences between the two clubs are at the heart of the reason for the animosity.
United hold the edge over their Merseyside rivals, winning 90 of their 240 competitive encounters against Liverpool, losing 81 and drawing 69 since the Manchester side club were formerly known as Newton Heath in 1894.
Man United-Arsenal
On the other hand, Arsenal vs Manchester United is another high-profile rivalry to look out for. The rivalry peaked during Arsene Wenger’s time with Arsenal in the early 2000s, when Manchester United and Arsenal were the top two sides of the Premier League. Many incidents including Manchester United ending Arsenal’s 49 game unbeaten run (although controversially) and infamous ‘pizzagate’ (where Cesc Fabregas threw a slice of pizza which hit Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson) added fuel to the fire.
The football aficionados in North America will definitely be looking forward to the matches even as the host cities for this summer’s games and precise dates are not undecided.
