Yesterday proved to be one of the biggest days for Test cricket, with England and the West Indies claiming remarkable comeback wins over heavyweights India and Australia. Despite a huge success for Test cricket amid talks of its death, Kevin Pietersen has fanned the fire.
The former English great claimed that T20 cricket is the need of the moment, while the Test is quickly becoming a thing of the past. While comparing the two formats, Pietersen on his X account credited T20 cricket for increasing the entertainment value in Test cricket.
“An argument can be had, for saying that T20 has enabled a more entertaining Test match arena.”
Kevin Pietersen further added that the old guard often bash the shorter format, but what they fail to realize is that T20 cricket is the future. He also added that money is the biggest factor, and right now, Test cricket isn’t bringing any of it. The old guard will need to change its priority, or else they’ll be moved on.
“Also, it’s just the old guard who keep saying the T20 etc are sh*te and we want more Tests. What they don’t realise, is that kids have zero interest in Tests and the money in the game isn’t coming from Tests.”
“My greatest format is Tests. I love them more than anything. But, I’ve moved with the times and realise that the future won’t be Tests for all nations. It just won’t.”
