India faced a major setback in the opening match of the five-game IND vs ENG Test series against England in Hyderabad, suffering a 28-run defeat. Adding to the woes, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during the 39th over of the game. However, his assessment reports are due on Monday, as per Cricbuzz.
IND vs ENG: Jadeja injury scare looms, reports awaited
According to reports in Cricbuzz, Jadeja is most likely to miss the second IND vs ENG Test in Hyderabad, However, the extent of Jadeja’s injury remains uncertain, with head coach Rahul Dravid expressing uncertainty about its severity. The upcoming tests will determine whether it is a tear or a strain. Regardless, even in the case of a strain, it might be advisable for Jadeja to rest for a week or more.
Despite being the top run-scorer for India in the first innings with an impressive 87, Jadeja’s injury occurred during the 231-run chase. England’s captain, Ben Stokes, executed a direct hit that resulted in Jadeja being dismissed for just 2, aggravating the hamstring concern.
“We’ll see. I honestly haven’t had a chance to speak to the physio as yet. Once I get back, I’ll speak to him and see what it is about,” Dravid said at the post-match media conference.
The second Test between India and England is scheduled to commence on February 2 in Visakhapatnam, but it’s unclear whether Jadeja will accompany the team or head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Notably, Jadeja had also missed the first Test against South Africa in December due to a back spasm.
