AIFF to take final call on Shaji Prabhakaran’s termination at Exco meeting

AIFF has convened an Executive Committee meeting to discuss the removal of Shaji Prabhakaran from his role as the Secretary-General of the football organization.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has called for an executive committee meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the dismissal of secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran. Despite a court order placing a stay on his termination, Prabhakaran is however unlikely to receive an invitation for the meeting.

Among the agenda items, the committee will discuss the dismissal and termination of Prabhakaran from his position. Expressing his disappointment, Prabhakaran revealed that he has not been invited to the meeting and expressed his desire to present his side of the story.

“No, I have not been invited for Tuesday’s executive committee meeting of the AIFF,” Prabhakaran told PTI.

“I wanted to be there and present my side of the story. I have even written a letter to the members but even then I have not been invited,” he added.

His removal on November 7, citing a “breach of trust,” was temporarily halted by a Delhi High Court order on December 8. In a subsequent order on January 19, the court pointed out procedural irregularities and clarified that the stay order does not prevent the AIFF from conducting meetings to address Prabhakaran’s tenure.

Asserting his role as secretary general, Prabhakaran urged AIFF members to invite him, pledging to address any concerns and emphasizing his commitment to football’s integrity in a letter dated December 24.

“My sincere request to each of you is that I be invited to the next gathering of the AIFF members, whether it is an Executive Committee meeting or an Annual General Meeting (or, for that matter, any other formal or informal meetings), whenever it is being planned,” Prabhakaran wrote in the letter addressed to the members of the executive committee.
