England messed up with the Decision Review System (DRS) in the IND vs ENG 1st Test as they lost all five reviews in the game at Hyderabad. In what can be called a display of poor judgement, the visitors wasted three reviews across two innings. This could potentially come to bite back Ben Stokes and co. as India are eyeing to chase down the target to win the 1st Test.
IND vs ENG: England mess up with DRS
Batting first in the 1st Test at Hyderabad, England burnt their first review right in the 2nd over of the 1st innings after using it against Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Indian opener attempted a pull shot off Mark Wood’s delivery which went on to the keeper’s hands down the leg side. However, a flat line from Ultra Edge meant that the visitors had lost their first review.
The second review was wasted in the similar fashion as the first, after England reviewed a caught behind decision for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Umpire Chris Gaffney’s on-field decision of not out stood as the DRS saw the ball miss Rohit’s bat by miles. Within the 13th over of the 1st innings, the visitors had burnt all three reviews, having unsuccessfully used the last review against Shubman Gill.
Root was the first to waste a review in ENG’s 2nd innings as he unsuccessfully reviewed an LBW decision off Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery. England burnt yet another review on Yashasvi Jaiswal in IND’s 2nd innings for an LBW which was also unsuccessful.
