Shamar Joseph takes 7-68, leads West Indies to historic Gabba win

West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph grabbed his second five-wicket haul in the AUS vs WI 2nd Test at the Gabba on Sunday.

In a truly nail-biting finish, the West Indies have pulled off a remarkable victory against Australia at the Gabba, their first Test win on Aussie soil in almost 30 years! Written off by many before the match, the Windies fought tooth and nail, riding on Shamar Joseph’s incredible 7-wicket performance.

After Australia made 215, things looked bleak for the Windies. But Joseph, defying pain from a painful toe injury, turned the tide. He dismissed Green and Head in a row, then ripped through the middle order, leaving only Smith standing.

Needing just two wickets for victory, tension escalated. Despite a late fightback from Lyon, Joseph held his nerve. Alzarri Joseph finally got Lyon, and then, in a dramatic climax, Joseph uprooted Hazlewood’s off-stump, sending the Windies into ecstatic celebrations.

Joseph, a hero reborn after yesterday’s injury scare, is the undisputed star of the show. His magnificent spell of 7/68 will echo through cricketing history. This historic win is a testament to the Windies’ unwavering spirit and a defining moment for Joseph’s young career.

AUS vs WI: Joseph leads Windies fightback with fifer

Cameron Green (42) was Joseph’s first victim, as he departed after the ball went on to crash into the stumps. The next Australia batter was Travis Head, who walked back to the pavilion for a golden duck. Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey were Joseph’s next two scalps.

Just when things started to seem to get out of hands for the visitors, Joseph pulled his side back into the game with yet another wicket, sealing his fifer. Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc stitched together a valuable partnership as Australia inched towards victory, with the latter putting up a great cameo performance.

Jospeh came to the rescue for the Windies as he sent Starc packing, getting Australia down to 7 wickets. Australia need to chase down 216 runs to complete the 2-0 drubbing of the West Indies in the two-match Test series.
