Retired, rewired, reached 10k! Tiwary’s comeback captivates ‘Bengal Family’

After reaching the landmark with a signature flick of the wrist, Manoj Tiwary joy exploded in a jubilant celebration with his Bengal teammates.

Emotion reigned supreme in Guwahati as veteran Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary reached the coveted 10,000 run mark in first-class cricket. The 38-year-old, having reversed his retirement decision last year, etched his name in history against Assam in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match.

After reaching the landmark with a signature flick of the wrist, Manoj Tiwary joy exploded in a jubilant celebration with his Bengal teammates. A heartwarming video shared by the skipper himself captures the emotional outpouring, aptly captioned, “Thank you Team Bengal! A celebration which has made me emotional today!”

Manoj Tiwary, who began his first-class journey in 2004, cherished the moment deeply, calling his teammates the “Bengal Family.” This camaraderie, he emphasized, makes the milestone even more special.

Manoj Tiwary: A first-class great

His journey to the historic feat, however, wasn’t a fairytale start. The Ranji Trophy campaign saw Manoj Tiwary struggle initially, managing only 54 runs across three matches. But against Assam, the experienced campaigner stepped up when his team needed him most.

Walking in at 57/4, Bengal’s hopes rested heavily on Tiwary’s shoulders. He embraced the responsibility with his trademark composure, navigating the precarious situation with unwavering skill.

By stumps on Day 1, Manoj Tiwary stood unbeaten on 68, his innings a reassuring anchor amidst the chaos. His crucial partnership of 185 with Anustup Majumdar (120) steered Bengal to a respectable 242/4.

As Day 2 unfolds, Tiwary’s eyes will be set on two goals: helping Bengal post a dominant score and potentially registering his 30th first-class century. But beyond the numbers, it’s the emotional tapestry woven with his teammates that will resonate long after the dust settles.
