The England Cricket Team faced a perilous situation where they had to use start batter Joe Root in extensive bowling. While Joe Root is a part time bowler, with no Ben Stokes and injured Lack Leach, England had to tire out their star batter on IND vs ENG Test on Day 2 in Hyderabad.
Jack Leach suffered a knee injury and thus was used in short bursts throughout the day. Leach bowled a total of 16 overs on Day 2. But England had to strike their own foot when Joe Root was extensively used for bowling.
“Jack banged his knee last night, the first dive down at fine leg. Then he banged it again today. And it’s giving him a little jip to be honest,” Jeetan Patel told the media after Day 2.
No Ben Stokes For Bowling
Ben Stokes is expected not to bowl in the IND vs ENG Test series. With Leach injured, and no James Anderson, the Three Lions had to rely on Joe Root.
The star English bowler had to bowl 24 overs on Day 2. Though Root managed to scalp the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KS Bharat, the move can hurt England in the long run. India holds a comfortable 175 run lead. India will hope to increase their lead to a much bigger margin before giving the chance to England to bat again.
Under chance conditions, Root already worn out, will be further forced to bowl and then go on to bat his usual spot at number 4. Adding more misery for the batter will the slow and turning Day 3 pitch in Hyderabad. Compared to the English spinners, Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar Patel spun better on Day 1.
With the pitch turning more slow, it will likely be more threatening for the English batters to face India’s spin trident.
