Fiery West Indies pacer Kemar Roach opined that the situation of the AUS vs WI 2nd Test would have been much different if Alex Carey had been dismissed when Australia were at 70 runs. Roach was referring to Carey’s lucky escape after a delivery from teammate Shamar Joseph brushed past the bail on the stump but failed to dislodge it.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Roach said that the team had watched the replay of the delivery on the television screen inside the dressing room and6 that no one knew until then. He admitted that luck did not go in their favour and that the rest of the players, including himself, had heard a noise and thought it was the pad. Roach added that the wicket would have created a different picture for the side, with Australia being at 70-6.
“We only saw it on TV inside. No one knew,” Kemar Roach said. “There was a noise, but everyone thought it was the pad. Sometimes you need some luck and it didn’t go for us today. Would have been a different game, I think, at 70 for 6.“
The ball went on to edge past the bail, making contact in the process before it was caught by keeper Da Silva. The wicketkeeper immediately appealed, having heard the sound from behind. A few replays later, it was clear that the ball had indeed brushed past the bails but the bails were not dislodged and it simply spun in the groove.
Carey made the most of his escape as he went on to score a fighting fifty as he stitched together a crucial partnership with Usman Khawaja. He blasted eight boundaries and two sixes en route to his half-century.
