701 runs in a day! Arunachal Pradesh vs Hyderabad Ranji Trophy game shatters records as runs galore

It was a run feast for both sides, particularly Hyderabad, in their Ranji Trophy 2024 game against Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. Riding on the back of Tanmay Agarwal’s record breaking 323-run knock, Hyderabad ended Day 1 with a mammoth total of 529 runs. Combined with Arunachal’s 172 runs, this match has been the only second time that 700+ runs were scored in one day.

The only other side, the Australians versus Essex at Southend-on-Sea on May 15, 1948 made 721/10 on Day1. Remaining unbeaten on 323, Agarwal is single-handedly responsible for amassing runs in the 1st innings of the game. The batter breached past the triple ton mark at rapid fire face, blasting 33 boundaries and 21 sixes en route.

Hyderabad skipper Gahalaut Rahul Singh was the other centurion for the side as he played a 185-run knock. Batting first in the game, Arunachal Pradesh were bundled out for just 172 runs. Milind and Kartikeya Kak picked three wickets each while T Thyagarajan grabbed two scalps. The bowlers clinically wrapped up Arunachal’s innings following which the batters took charge. At stumps on Day 1, Hyderabad lead by 357 runs.
