In the 2019/20 season, Jurgen Klopp secured Liverpool’s first Premier League title in 30 years, finishing 17 points ahead of Manchester City. The triumph, unfortunately, took place during lockdown without fans in attendance. Liverpool won 32 out of 38 games that season. In the Premier League-winning season of 2019-20, Liverpool equalled the highest percentage of wins in a top-flight season at 84.21%.
Liverpool’s wins in the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in 2019, both against Chelsea, completed Klopp’s impressive trophy haul for the year. Mane’s brace and Tammy Abraham’s missed penalty secured the Super Cup, while Roberto Firmino scored crucial goals in the Club World Cup semi-final and final.
In the 2021/22 FA Cup, Liverpool’s journey included victories over Shrewsbury, Cardiff, Norwich, and Nottingham Forest. A challenging semi-final against Manchester City ended in a surprising win, with Sadio Mane’s two goals securing the victory. The final saw Liverpool defeating Chelsea 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
The League Cup in the same season witnessed another triumph for Liverpool over Chelsea in a penalty shootout. This time, the shootout extended to the goalkeepers, with Caoimhin Kelleher scoring the decisive penalty for an 11-10 victory.
