The IND vs ENG 1st Test is off to a flying start. England were all out for 246 in the first day itself. India came out to bat in the third session of the first day. A funny incident during India’s innings highlighted England’s plight. England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes stumbled on to the stumps while trying to collect a ball from the deep, much to the delight of his England teammates.
England did not have an ideal start to the IND vs ENG 1st Test. The Ben Stokes-led team could not do justice to their much talked-about Bazball approach as they were all-out for a meagre 246. No England batter could stay on to the pitch for long in front of an attacking Indian bowling, with only captain Ben Stokes scoring a half-century.
What Happened?
However, the funny incident took place during the third over of the Indian innings. Rohit Sharma flicked the ball towards the deep square leg and ran for a single. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was moving towards the strikers’ end, ran casually as there was not much danger of being run out. The throw came from the deep square leg region and England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes ran hard to collect the ball, keeping his eye on the ball.
Foakes did not check his direction, and as a result stumbled onto the stumps, tripped and fell over. However, the England custodian got a hand to the ball to ensure India did not get overthrows. His manner of falling delighted his England teammates, who started laughing at Foakes’ fall.
Former cricketer AB De Villiers also found the incident funny. The former South African cricketer tweeted about the incident, saying Foakes made a ‘proper rugby tackle’. The way Foakes fell, it is not a surprise that it tickled a lot of funny bones.
