Shakib Al Hasan diagnosed with retinal condition, to continue playing competitive cricket

While the BCB is optimistic of Shakib Al Hasan's eye issue getting better soon, that still puts a question mark on his participation in the T20 World cup.

Bangladesh veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been facing issues in his left eye. While he is all set to appear in a BPL match for Rangpur Riders, against Khulna Tigers on January 26, but the issue can’t be taken lightly. As per reports, Shakib will soon consult specialists in Singapore.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board came up with a press release, confirming the same. Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, the BCB senior physician, said, “Shakib has been complaining of subtle issues with his left eye. After consulting ophthalmologists in Bangladesh and abroad and after multiple eye assessments, it was confirmed that he is suffering from extrafoveal Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSR) of the left eye.

“It has been decided that a conservative approach will be adopted for managing the issue for now. CSR is a condition that affects the retina, leading to visual disturbances. The medical team overseeing Shakib’s case is optimistic about managing the condition effectively with a conservative approach.”

Earlier, in November, during the World Cup in India, Shakib had sustained a fracture in his index finger, during the match versus Sri Lanka. That had forced him to sit out of his team’s last league match against Australia.
