IND A vs ENG A: Akash Deep & Devdutt Padikkal impress as England Lions bowled out for 152

Akash Deep took a 4-wicket haul, while Padikkal remains unbeaten at 92 after the end of play on Day 1.

With all eyes on the upcoming IND vs ENG 1st Test, Devdutt Padikkal and Akash Deep’s brilliance in the India A vs England Lions match seems to have gone under the radar. After holding out a draw in the first unofficial Test, India A took the upper hand in the second Test by dismantling England’s batting lineup in Ahmedabad.

Despite winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the England Lions seemed to never be in control. After losing the first wicket at 25, they failed to recover. Akash Deep was the star with the ball, with four wickets to his name, including that of in-form Alex Lees.

Apart from Akash, Washington Sunder and Yash Dayal also took two wickets each to restrict England to just 152.

Devdutt Padikkal & Abhimanyu Easwaran dominate with the bat

If the Indian bowlers were good, their openers, Padikkal and Easwaran, were even better. The southpaw duo took different approaches as they guided India A to 150 for none at the end of play on Day one.

Padikkal took the ‘Bazball’ approach, scoring 92 of 96 balls. Meanwhile, skipper Easwaran scored 53 on the same number of balls.

Their dominance has seen the trail reduced to just 2 runs before the end of play as India looks to pile on the pain on Day 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
