Gujarat Titans express pacer Spencer Johnson helped his Brisbane Heat to win the Big Bash League (BBL 2024) after an excellent performance with the ball. Facing Sydney Sixers in the final match, Brisbane Heat posted 166/8 thanks to some decent cameos from Josh Brown, Matt Renshaw and Max Braynt. Despite their efforts, Spencer Johnson turned out to be the star for Brisbane Heat in BBL 2024 final.
Chasing 167 to win the title, Sydney Sixers lost experienced Daniel Hughes on one on the third ball of the innings. Jack Edwards looked solid at the crease and hit three boundaries against Spencer Johnson but fell on 16. Josh Philippe along with Moises Henriques led the recovery work for the Sixers.
Brisbane Heat bowled beautifully in the middle phase and didn’t allow the Sixers to get away. Philippe scored 23 off 22 balls before falling in the ninth over while trying to up the ante. Jordan Silk was stumped on a four-ball duck in the next over as Heat got right on top at the halfway mark as the scorecard read 60/4. Henriques tried hard and scored 27-ball 25 before departing in the 12th over.
Johnson was adjudged POTM
The Sixers failed to gather any momentum after their skipper’s departure and got knocked over on 112 in 173 overs to lose the game by 54 runs. As stated above, Spencer Johnson wreaked havoc in the Sixers camp. He finished with figures of 4/26 in his four overs. Xavier Bartlett and Mitchell Swepson also chipped in with a couple of scalps apiece. As a result, Brisbane Heat went on to lift the coveted trophy.
