Rachin Ravindra bags ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award after breakthrough ODI WC

Ravindra had ended New Zealand's ODI World Cup campaign as their highest run-scorer.

Rachin Ravindra has won the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year after a breakthrough 2023 season. The southpaw all-rounder impressed everyone with the bat, ending the ODI World Cup 2023 as their highest run scorer.

The 24-year-old scored 578 runs at 64.22 in the ODI World Cup 2023, which happens to be the most runs a New Zealand player has scored in a single edition of the event. Rachin ended the year with 911 runs at 36.44 and 23 wickets to his name.

Although he played both forms of white-ball cricket (ODIs and T20Is), he impressed the most in the longer format. In the 25 ODIs he played, he scored 820 runs at 41 and picked up 18 wickets at 46.61.

His T20Is weren’t poor by any means, but they weren’t up to par with his ODI success. In the 12 T20Is he played, he scored 91 runs at a strike rate of 133.82 while picking up 5 wickets at 32.80.

After accepting the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of Year award, Rachin Ravindra said:

“It’s obviously a very special feeling.”

“Whenever you get recognised by the ICC for something it is always special.

“Reflecting back it has been a pretty whirlwind last year and having the opportunity to play so much cricket in so many different environments has been very special.”
