During the SA20 2024 clash between Durban Super Giants and Mumbai Indians Cape Town at Newlands Park, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis faced an unusual dismissal.
Coming in to bat after the loss of Heinrich Klaasen, Stoinis attempted a pull shot during the 15th over, bowled by Olly Stone. However, the pacy short delivery hurried him, causing the ball to hit the handle of his bat, lobbing up behind square.
Mumbai Indians Cape Town bowler Kagiso Rabada seized the opportunity, taking a catch. To add to the bizarre turn of events, Stoinis, unable to control the downswing of his bat, inadvertently hit the stumps. Despite the bat not hitting the stumps, Rabada’s catch alone would have resulted in Stoinis being out. The all-rounder managed to score only 11 runs off 10 balls, with just one boundary.
Stoinis’ dismissal left Durban Super Giants struggling at 94/5 within the 15 overs. Despite this setback, the team staged a remarkable recovery, ensuring a respectable total on the scoreboard.
In the Durban Super Giants vs. MI Cape Town match, the former demonstrated a clinical batting performance, posting a modest total of 157/6. Despite a collapse in the middle order, a crucial partnership in the lower order, particularly the 39-run stand between Matthew Breetzke and Wiaan Mulder, enabled their team to surpass the 150-run mark.
