IND vs ENG: Zak Crawley channels inner snooker legend’s ‘powerful mindset’ for India test

Ahead of the IND vs ENG 1st Test, England opener Zak Crawley revealed that he was taking inspiration from snooker's Ronnie O'Sullivan

With just two days left for the IND vs ENG 1st Test, England opener Zak Crawley revealed that he is drawing inspiration from a snooker legend in preparation for the test in India. Determined to focus on the way he plays more than the result, the batter spilled the beans on how world number one snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan played a crucial role in shaping his mindset.

IND vs ENG: Crawley draws inspiration from O’Sullivan

As per EuroSport, Crawley revealed that he had been drawing inspiration from the snooker star to find his way back to form. Hailing Sullivan’s powerful mindset, the England opener went gaga over how the former played and spoke about his game. He admitted that it would be a tough mindset to get into but would help in playing better if done.

I love the way Ronnie plays and talks about sport,” Crawley said. “To him, the way he plays is more important than the result. That’s such a powerful mindset.

“It’s a hard one to get into, but whenever you get into that mindset, you find yourself playing better.”

Crawley further heaped praise on coach Brendon McCullum for being ‘big on mindset’. He said that an optimist like the Kiwi was required for England who were, in his words, sometimes pessimistic about sport.

“Baz [McCullum] is big on mindset,” he continued. “He talks about it all time, that the way we play is more important in the long run, and that will bring results.

Baz always seems to find the right moment to speak. He certainly has an aura about him. He’s never negative. He’s an optimist. That’s what we need sometimes in English sport. As a nation we’re quite pessimistic at times.”
